Heal, Boy! Heel!

Posted by smcgill on April 11, 2011 at 12:05 AM Comments comments (1)

No matter how much I WILL my heel to heal, it won't.

I've had very few injuries in my running career, and I've wondered how I might handle a long-term injury.  Well, I've now the opportunity to find out.  A heal spur has cursed me, brought on by plantar fascitis.  And I find myself feeling ever-so-sorry for me, even though countless others before me have experienced the same.  So, what to make of all of this frustration?

I have three options:

1. Pout that I can't do what I love, wait for healing while I'm doing nothing because I can't do what I love, gain weight because I'm refusing to do anything because it's not what I love to do, put more pressure on my already injured heal as a result of more weight because I've refused to do something other than what I love to do, exasperate the injury, repeat.

2. Pout that I can't do what I love, wait a few days and try doing, once again, what I love to do, see #1.

3. Pout that I can't do what I love, consider other activities that don't exasperate the heal injury, work hard at those activities (cycling, swimming, etc.), continue doing those activities until the heel is healed, do what I love...once again.

Option #3 wins.

Keep running,

Steve

St. Joseph's 5k Fun Run/Walk for Wellness

Posted by Amy on January 22, 2011 at 9:00 AM Comments comments (0)

Open to the community, St. Joseph's Second Annual Fun Run/Walk for Wellness is a nice, easy, flat 5K on 2 loops throughout University Park. Pre- and post-race activities will be held in the plaza in front of St. Joseph's Patient Pavilion.

Proceeds from this year’s Run/Walk for Wellness will benefit the St. Joseph’s Foundation Capital Campaign. St. Joseph’s new Patient Pavilion, new Linear Accelerator and upgraded Cath Labs are investments of more than $125 million in the health of every family who calls our community home. St. Joseph’s needs your support to continue to make capital improvements like those a reality.

Find out more at StJosephsCares.org/Wellness, or sign up online at active.com.

Compare running logs for motivation

Posted by Sweeps on April 12, 2010 at 12:40 AM Comments comments (2)

I like running by myself but I would like to share running logs to help motivate me in my runs/walks. I just started running seriously last year and have gotten past the regrets of having to push myself out the door to run. Now I want to improve on my speed and distance. I've reached my goal of getting under 30 min. in the 5K. I now want to do a 10K under an hour. Comparing notes might give me the edge to do it. Anyone interested in comparing running logs would be appreciated. My email is sweeps1@yahoo.com. It would be great to see how everyone else is doing with their runs. Maybe Sundance can set something up on their web site where members can share running logs. Happy running.

Here is a link to the event

This event is very cool and would encourage everyone to come out and have fun at this event.  The winter is coming to a close and this is your last chance to snow shoe for a while.  Events such as this one are rare and it is for a good cause.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks,

Don't Lose Sight

Posted by smcgill on November 7, 2009 at 11:51 PM Comments comments (3)

Responsibilities in life tend to suck the passion for running frommany runners.  Don't be fooled, even the most avid runners can give upa day of running to a relaxing sit in the leather lounge, if only totake a few deep breaths.  But here's the beef; have you ever finished arun and thought, Man, I wish I had sat in the comfy, leather chair instead of going for that blasted run!"  I think not.

Don'tlose sight of the passion that you have for running.  It's there.  It sits waiting, though not in the leather chair, hoping to be your pal for a long, long time.
